About Me

I made the transition into civilian life working for a global service and engineering company, after nearly 28 years’ service in The Royal Navy. For many, this transition is particularly difficult, despite the skill set they offer. For me personally, this was made more difficult having been diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after surviving the sinking of HMS Sheffield during the Falkland Islands conflict in 1982. I was 19. I had a choice. I could let it beat me. Or I could take back control. I chose the latter.
As well as learning my trade within the Logistics and Personnel Branch, my time in The Royal Navy taught me excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership skills and also the ability to work within a team. Each needed to be mastered and at times, with lives depending on it – quite literally.
My battle with PTSD was difficult and painful. I was not going to give in to it and moreover I was going to overcome it, without being on any medication - and I did. Serving with the armed forces, overcoming PTSD, and transitioning to civilian life have taught me that anything in this life is possible.
